How InteGrade uses AI

Opt-in, transparent, and never on autopilot. AI for the busywork, not the grading.

Every AI capability in InteGrade follows the same three rules, and they are worth stating plainly because they shape how every feature behaves.

The three rules

1. Opt-in, always. No AI feature runs unless you enable or invoke it. Assignments grade perfectly well with all of it off. Features like course method analysis are enabled per assignment; features like voice comments and feedback drafting run only when you trigger them.

2. It shows its work. AI output in InteGrade arrives with its reasoning attached. Method analysis tells you what method it saw, what your materials teach, and which sections it compared against, and lets you read the raw transcription it worked from. A conclusion you cannot inspect is a conclusion you cannot trust, so we do not ship those.

3. You stay in the driver's seat. AI in InteGrade drafts, flags, transcribes, and cleans up. It never assigns a score, never applies a rubric item, never sends a message to a student. Every one of those actions is taken by you, explicitly.

What that means per feature

Feature What the AI does What only you do
Rubric auto-import Reconstructs your rubric from a PDF Review and edit the result
Automatic matching Reads names, suggests roster matches Confirm uncertain matches
Visual processing Straightens and cleans page images Override any correction
Method analysis Flags method mismatches with reasoning Decide what a flag means
Voice to LaTeX Transcribes and typesets your dictation Edit and keep or discard
Feedback drafting Drafts a comment from your rubric choices Edit, send, or trash
Automatic communication Drafts outreach with grade context Review and send every message

Why it is built this way

Grading is judgment, and the judgment is yours. The hours around the judgment, re-keying rubrics, sorting scans, typesetting math in comments, drafting the fifteenth "please come to office hours" email, are busywork. InteGrade points AI at the busywork and keeps the judgment human.
